A standout Victorian ball-and-chain collar necklace in glowing 15-carat gold, dating to circa 1880. This sumptuous design features semi-solid links with raised gold orbs throughout, creating a beautifully tactile, dimensional silhouette that sits effortlessly in a layered neckmess or worn solo as a statement piece.
The oversized bolt ring (12.5mm diameter; 17mm including bail) is original and wonderfully proportioned. We have sensitively upgraded the connecting O-ring to a handcrafted chunky 14ct gold link for security and harmony of design.
This piece has survived nearly 150 years and remains in good antique condition. As is typical of Victorian semi-solid linkwork, a few links show minor dings and gentle age-related irregularities. In certain small areas, the gold appears slightly warmer, suggesting that the necklace may have once received a subtle gilding or gold wash to enrich its colour. Some links sit a little more “open” on the inside when viewed closely; this is consistent with the way these links were originally constructed, allowing for movement within the design. None of these features indicates structural weakness; they are simply reflections of its craftsmanship and age and are not noticeable when worn. All of this has been thoughtfully reflected in the price.
A wonderfully characterful and wearable antique collar, rich in texture, beautifully weighted, and ready to layer with your modern favourites or your most cherished Victorian pieces.
